George Mason University received essential investments in its students, faculty and staff from Virginia’s biennium budget, which the General Assembly passed and Governor Glenn Youngkin signed on May 13, 2024. The funding goes into effect July 1, 2024.

February 23, 2024
Sporting their trademark green and gold scarves and filled with Patriot Pride, more than 70 George Mason University students traveled to Richmond on Thursday, Feb. 15, to advocate for Mason’s legislative priorities during Mason Lobbies. The primary ask was for an additional $18 million to address historical underfunding concerning appropriations aid for undergraduate students, echoing SCHEV's recommendation.

George Mason University’s presence continues to make an impact in Richmond with an increased number of proud Mason Patriots serving the commonwealth. George Mason's alumni contingent includes Majority Leader Delegate Charniele Herring, Senators Jeremy McPike (D-29), Stella Pekarsky, Bryce Reeves, Saddam Salim, and Glen Sturtevant, and Delegates Michael J. Webert and Bill Wiley.

The 40 Mason students who traveled to Richmond for Mason Lobbies on Jan. 26 shared their college experience with legislators and highlighted the need for increasing financial aid for Mason students, increased funding per student, and increased staff and faculty salaries for the university to be more competitive in the Washington, D.C., metro area.
