Sabena Moretz joined George Mason University and the Office of State Government Relations in 2010 as the Manager of State Government Relations. As Manager, Ms. Moretz is responsible for tracking legislation through the Virginia General Assembly, contacting on-campus stakeholders for their input and using that information to inform the University’s senior leadership as they formulate the University’s positions and responses. In addition, her duties include strategy, planning and execution of events to raise awareness of the University’s initiatives among members of the legislature and other state officials to continually strengthen these important external relationships.
Prior to joining Mason, Ms. Moretz worked for 19 years in the Office of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Richmond. While there she had significant responsibility for recruitment communications strategy and execution, international student recruitment, and applicant review. Her prior government relations experience includes having worked in the Virginia Senate Clerk’s office and service on the government relations committee of the Potomac & Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling. She earned her Master’s degree in higher education administration from the College of William & Mary and her Bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Richmond.
